📖Book Info
Sometimes the sweetest victories happen off the ice.

Ryland Zervudachi lives for the game of hockey—and for the chance to build the kind of team unity that will carry the Columbus Pilots all the way back to the playoffs after last season’s crushing defeat. Off the ice, though, there’s one goal he hasn’t managed to score—the heart of Kyle Dabbs, the Vermont Trailblazers’ team captain and his long-time crush.

Kyle Dabbs has built a life centered on quiet strength. After a childhood scarred by his father’s verbal abuse, Dabbs pours his energy into his career on the ice and the book series he’s written to help kids like the boy he once was. He doesn’t need someone flashy, loud, and spotlight-loving like Ryland turning his world upside down.

But when an untimely appendectomy leaves Dabbs stuck at home, Ryland—recovering from an injury—shows up to help. Between late-night Scrabble competitions, pumpkin-carving mishaps, and long talks that peel back layers they’ve both kept hidden, Dabbs begins to see past Ryland’s bold exterior.

With chemistry sparking and walls crumbling, both men must decide if they’re ready to risk their hearts for something even better than a championship: love.

💭Our Thoughts
“Both things can be true,”

This was such a sweet, slow-burning romance.
The HEA feels pretty quick, and we see it coming, but the journey there is what makes the story.
Low, to no drama read, both men have faced enough hurdles in their lifetimes.
Their story was more about the healing and the cohesion of their two souls.
It was time for each to see their worth and put the past to bed

“You’ve always had color where others are gray.”
Ry is such a burst of sunshine!
He can come across as flamboyant and maybe seeking that little bit extra.
But underneath all the glitter, he his pure of heart.
His little antics.
The apple bread.
His at times slightly off-key humor. The jello. The Scrabble plays
Adorkable!

“I can be amused and contrite at the same time.”
Dabbs was the quieter one.
The team captain. The glue that held his team strong.
But the spotlight was not for him.
He showed the surface to the world, but kept the real him hidden
A bit of an introvert compared to Ry's in-your-face personality

“He felt like comfort and home and raw pleasure all mixed into one.”
When Dabs turns Ry down in his brother's book,
I knew their story would be heartfelt.
And it was!

This was more about the healing for both of them
The romance, the attraction, the tension,
It was always there, right beneath the surface.
And when they finally meet in the middle
- pure fire!

Watching them slowly slot into place in each other's lives
Healing the broken bits.
Knitting back together the cracks their pasts had left behind.
The journey is always the best part

And as always, a solid supporting cast that will wiggle their way into your heart and leave a lasting impression

On a hopeful note, I enjoyed seeing where they were a few years later, and I am hoping we may be getting a new series or going back - guess it's all in how you look at it
