A steamy, grumpy sunshine sports romance featuring a woman down on her luck, a star basketball player with a filthy mouth, and a connection neither of them can deny.
After being dumped and losing my job the same week, the last thing my broken heart needs is a rebound.
I’m escaping across the country to help my perfect sister plan her dream wedding, and to prove to both of us everything is under control.
But a combination of tequila and turbulence on the flight there lead to word-vomiting all my troubles to the huge and handsome stranger in the first-class seat next to mine.
Only his whispered dirty diversions keep me sane until landing.
Despite the spark of attraction, we go our separate ways.

Turns out the tall, muscular, tattooed tower of a man from the plane is the star player on my future brother-in-law’s pro basketball team.
Clay is the last person I should gravitate toward. They’re called “players” for a reason.

Such a powerful moment it is the whole story summed up in three words
Both Clay and Nova were stumbling through life's trials but they kept getting up and trying again. Not always going about it in the most "healthy" of ways. But live and learn.
"You like being famous but you like being anonymous more"
A chance to be the real Clay without worrying about judgment, fans, cameras, gossip, and all the other expectations that came with his stardom.
"Going down the drainpipe looks way easier in the movies"
These two played off each other so flawlessly. The banter, the oversharing, the way they just clicked. I laughed so hard. I cried.
I hurrahed and hoped.
"Do you ever feel like the walls are closing in?"
Clay and Nova both had some luggage they needed to unpack if they ever wanted to truly be happy.
"Because no matter how many people want to be you you're the only one who is"
Clay was nothing but a money machine to management and a sports icon to the fans. A payday to the women. He was rarely viewed as a real person. One with real needs.
Nova always felt like she was less than, that everything she touched became tainted. She was trying so hard to make up for all she felt she had done. Real or imaginary.
"Like I'm drowning" "Like I'm seconds away from sinking to the bottom of the ocean and all I can do is postpone the inevitable"
Nova had literally had her life turned inside out and she was currently awaiting the final drop of the curtain. Having nothing but time she takes the first step to make amends with her sister only to find she might be too late and that some things never change.
I may have cried a few silent tears maybe even attempted a time or two to reach in and wrap them both in bubble wrap, tell them it was going to be okay.
"Took time to realize life is full of paths, like a tree branching out with thousands of possibilities. Unlike a tree, we can go back and choose another path."
Clay was focused on being the best. He had no room or time for romance BBall was truly his life. Until a pink-haired beauty had him questioning everything.
Sometimes we take the wrong path for what we believe are the right reasons.
I'm so mad at a few certain someone's and a little disappointed in others.
Sis, I know you felt like you were always cleaning up but you do realize you may have been part of the problem?
