Rory has survived the apocalypse for two years. He has outrun monsters and humans alike, and while it’s been lonely, he’s doing fine. Until he meets Inkiri.
Horned, blue, and handsome, Inkiri isn’t like the other monsters who try to eat Rory. He’s nice, has a group of friends, and offers Rory more than just shelter.
Rory is determined to enjoy what comforts he can find in these changed times, but he’s soon drawn into a conflict he didn’t even know existed and must grapple with the reality of magic and the dangers it brings.
💭Our Thoughts:
How Rory had survived as long as he did is so beyond my imagination.
He was innocence, wrapped in naivety, walking through a war zone!
If Inkiri hadn't found him when he did, he would have been a monster snack!
I'm not even sure how to describe the story overall:
A fabulously unique and diverse cast
A bit of a mystery
Lots of humor
Some angsty notes
Banter
Action
Steamy smexy moments
The cast was a diverse mix of strong personalities; they should have clashed, but somehow it worked.
I enjoyed how the author created a solid team: the inventor, the warrior, the bookworm, etc.
A perfect recipe
The world-building was unique. How the "incident" happened and the mixed results
There's a feel of suspense to the read. Evil villains with gleefully dark plots, ready to pounce with the turn of the page
This ends on a bit of a “ come on, no way” moment.
Overall, a fun, at times sappy, a little suspenseful, and definitely intriguing story.
I originally received an ARC but ended up grabbing it in Kobo Plus.
Now I can move on to book 2 😊
