BLURB:

A Pride & Prejudice variation with a slightly paranormal, mainly comic twist!

When Elizabeth Bennet visits her newly-married friend, Charlotte Collins, at the Hunsford parsonage, she has no idea that Mr. Darcy (he of the arrogant demeanor and perpetual cause of annoyance!) shall turn up to ruin her blissful, idyllic days.

Only, Mr. Darcy is not himself. And then Elizabeth stumbles straight through him one day... like one would an apparition! Goodness gracious!

“Mr. Darcy, I do not know what you mean, but I would appreciate it if you would desist from haunting me!”

“I apologize, Miss Bennet, for scaring you,” Mr. Darcy said, almost regretfully.

To solve her haunting problem, Elizabeth must team up with Mr. Darcy to find out what happened to him, and along the way discover that maybe he is not all that he seemed at first. And that maybe... she doesn’t hate him after all.

“You wish to write the letter now?” he asked as she moved past him with the candle.

“Well, to be honest,” she glanced at him. “I would prefer to sleep. But since you are here, I do not see why not.”

From the antics of Lady Catherine de Bourgh to the hilarity of Mr. Collins’ advice on staying fit, The Cherry Trees of Rosings shall make you laugh and cry in equal measure. And wonder: Will our favourite couple find their happy ever after?

Spoiler: Yes, they will!

This Pride and Prejudice variation features our favourite Regency romance couple from Jane Austen's original classic in a somewhat spooky setup. But fear not, dear readers! This story is not scary in the least. Prepare for a chuckle fest and abundant cups of tea!

EXCERPT

Elizabeth finished arranging her hair in a simple fashion before stepping out of her room. The rest of the inhabitants of the parsonage were already at the foyer of the cottage.

“Hurry along! Hurry along! Charlotte, Sister Maria, Cousin Elizabeth!” Mr. Collins called. “We must not keep her ladyship waiting!”

He was sweating profusely. Perhaps at the thought of arriving a few minutes late and having to prostrate at his patroness’ feet. Elizabeth coughed into her hand to cover her smirk as she joined them.

“Oh! What was that?” Mr. Collins asked, turning towards her. “Cousin Elizabeth, are you unwell?” He looked comically red in the face. “Perhaps you should stay behind. Her ladyship has strict rules about bringing disease into the great house!”

Elizabeth barely restrained herself from rolling her eyes. Though she did arch her eyebrows in amusement.

“I think I swallowed some dust. Nothing to worry about surely.”

“Dust? Did you say dust?” Mr. Collins’ eyes widened. He turned to his wife. “Charlotte! You must tell Mrs. Bishop to be more meticulous! I cannot have her humiliating me if her ladyship visits one day and sees such deplorable state of affairs. You know how…”

Elizabeth tuned out her hapless cousin’s words. It was surely an irony that the man had a housekeeper named Bishop—one who had arrived at the recommendation of Lady Catherine herself—while he worshipped nobody higher than his patroness. She only hoped that Charlotte would not be too vexed at her for stirring up Mr. Collins’ humors.

Guest Post
Things that inspire you and why.

Hi there everyone! I am happy to be here on the A Wonderful World of Words blog as part of my book tour for The Cherry Trees of Rosings. Thank you so much for having me! Since my book is a Historical Regency romance with tons of social comedy and heart-touching moments between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy (our Austenesque FMC and MMC), I’d like to cast a soft light on some of the things that inspire me as a writer while I work on my stories. Honestly, the first one sounds rather basic, but ask any Pinterest girl and she’ll tell you exactly why it’s the place to go to be inspired! The first order of business is always to get my eyeballs on some pretty pictures and illustrations of male and female characters, preferably drawn by the excellent human artists who share their work on that platform. I am a visual person, so it helps a ton when I can imagine my leads and side characters. But of course, because it’s Pinterest, one cannot just lurk without finding themselves in the oddest places. So inspiration can come from many sources. Sometimes it’s a colorful mood board that influences a scene. Sometimes it’s an outfit that makes the words flow like magic. Sometimes it’s just procrastination… because I am stuck on a difficult chapter and need to clear my head. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have simply scrolled through reel after reel of cake picnics just because! They are a visual treat, for sure. But these meandering inspirations always end up making my stories richer even if they themselves never show up in the work. I like to imagine that these visual treats help me set the scene and the ambience. Get the vibe just right. Of course, it’s a different matter when I am working on the tear-jerking bits of the plot. That’s where music becomes my next source of inspiration. I like to stuff my ears with classical music. No words. No lyrics. Just the music. The sadder or more profound, the better. Sometimes the automatic playlist surprises me. But it’s tricky if something wrong starts playing. Honestly though, the best source of inspiration for a writer in any genre is to read more books within that genre. Preferably the ones that seem to resonate the most with readers! As an Austenesque writer this works out really well because the Jane Austen community is pretty big and vibrant worldwide. So there’s always something interesting going on. It’s this wonderful space with varied voices and takes on our beloved characters from Jane Austen’s original works. By the by, did you know we just celebrated Jane Austen’s 250th anniversary recently? I am obviously eagerly waiting for Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of Pride and Prejudice (as is any other Janeite!) and also BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister, but in the meantime I’d love for readers of historical romance or Austenesque fiction to give The Cherry Trees of Rosings a try. It’s a fun, slightly spooky variation of Pride and Prejudice with a ghostly Mr. Darcy and a guaranteed happy ever after! No spice. Only kisses. And tons of comic relief from the main villains, Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The Cherry Trees of Rosings is available to read on Kindle Unlimited.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Morgan Blake writes regency romance novels and Austenesque variations of Pride & Prejudice that are sometimes steamy, sometimes not. Satire is the name of the game and happy ever afters the goal!

Morgan loves exploring themes of personal identity, inner strength, social discourse and hope alongside enduring love in her stories. She also believes that strong heroes and heroines are not enough to make a tale worth telling. They need a supporting cast of good and not-so-good characters that add more punch and vibrancy... and some dramatic ridiculousness!

Morgan is a cat friend, tropical girl who prefers winter clothes, perennial fantasy/historical fiction nerd, and a night owl.

What reviewers are saying about The Cherry Trees of Rosings:

“When an author marries two of your all-time favourite stories, this is it! Morgan keeps some Austen language but makes it palatable for modern audiences. It was witty and beautifully descriptive.”
—Nicole Curls Up to Read,

“This variation mixes the absurdity of Mr Collins, the entitlement of Lady Catherine, the scepticism of Colonel Fitzwilliam, with the awkwardness and humour of Darcy and Elizabeth's interactions. A good combination of humour, romance and angst.”
—My JAFF Obsession,

“The story was really captivating, especially as Elizabeth tries to figure out why Darcy is an apparition and how to help him back to his normal state. At some points the story was also a bit sad because it seems that there can be no future for Darcy and Elizabeth. Fortunately that is not the case and in the end (*spoiler*) they find their happily ever after.”
—Melanie Reads JAFF,

“That was fast reading in one day, but I just couldn’t stop reading!”
—Eileen Smith, Goodreads,
