GENRE:  Thriller

BLURB:

Skye Maddox is a contract assassin driven by both personal demons and professional discipline. Hired by grieving father Milo Williams to hunt down the chain of men responsible for his son’s death, Skye takes on a mission that escalates into a war with Washington, D.C.’s most dangerous underworld figures led by a man known only as Hetman. As she climbs Milo’s ladder of revenge, Skye uncovers a web of corruption that links drug dealers, judges, mobsters, and even international crime syndicates.

The story escalates through brutal shootouts, betrayals, and psychological games, as Skye pushes deeper into Hetman’s empire. Each success makes her a bigger target. In the end, she must weigh the cost of finishing Milo’s revenge against the danger of becoming just another expendable weapon in someone else’s war.

EXCERPT

A lot can happen in one second.

Skye stamped down on her left escort’s right foot. The silver paper sheath on her heel fell away, allowing the steel spike of the shoe’s heel to slice through the man’s instep and into the floor. Her left hand was already pulling her star-shaped belt buckle free as she stamped out to her right, dislocating the other man’s knee. Her left arm arced out, flipping the buckle forward fast enough that Chen had no chance to move before it sliced deep into his throat. One spike of the star sliced his carotid sending arterial spray into the blonde’s face, The blonde’s horrified scream was louder than those of the two injured men.

Everyone in the room was frozen in shock for two seconds except Skye. She reached across the black boxer type. Her hand darted under his jacket to grasp his pistol. She spun back quickly, firing twice as she kicked off her shoes. The two men at the table fell before they even knew they were under attack. She ran forward but looking left. The bartender had produced a shotgun from beneath the bar so she put a bullet in his right arm.

Chen had fallen back into his chair, his eyes glassy, staring at nothing. Skye’s forward momentum put her left foot on the cushion at Chen’s crotch. Her right foot hit the top of the back of the chair and then she was behind him, yanking a window open and slipping through it.

What Music playlist would you put together for the book:

I’d love to be able to sell this novel with a CD attached. My playlist would be:

Run Joe  by Chuck Brown

Go-Go is the official music style of Washing ton DC and the late Chuck Brown was the Godfather of Go-Go. The protagonist of True Target, Skye, is a DC native and a huge Go-Go fan, so this is the perfect starter song. Because of her underworld connections, the lyrics fit too. The chorus is, “Run Joe! Run Joe! The Policeman’s at the door. Run Joe! Run Joe! The police won’t let me go.”

Sticking with Go-Go, we’d also have a darker view of DC crime:

Crime & Violence by Queen Kamarta addresses not just crime but community violence and the need for change in local neighborhoods.

Because Skye is a professional assassin, two Queen songs would be on the list. One because Skye is a very creative killer -

Killer Queen – “Gun powder, gelatine, dynamite, with a laser beam… “

And because Skye’s targets are an increasingly dangerous group of killer that she faces one at a time:

Another One Bites the Dust

There is a scene in True Target in which Skye appears to be captured by some very bad men who think she is not worth worrying about. It’s a perfect place for

Respect by Aretha Franklin

Later, Skye does appear to be about to lose. I think

I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor would ft.

Survivor by Destiny's Child belongs on this playlist, as does

Fighter by Christina Aguilera - A song that frames difficult experiences as sources of strength. When readers learn Skye’s back story they will understand.

Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" by Kelly Clarkson fits well  It’s all about resilience.

Good as Hell by Lizzo would round out the playlist - A feel-good anthem centered on self-love and empowerment.
