Allies.
When Mafia Bosses Allesandro Martelli and Cristian Amato are kidnapped, their fledgling alliance is put to test as the once rivals are forced to rely on each other for survival.
Friends.
With the Bosses gone, Roman Amato and Emilio Martelli step up to lead their respective Families. They’ve both trained extensively for such a task, but reality is always worse. Forced to work together and trust each other as leaders and allies, rather than just friends, they quickly learn that 'Boss' is more than a title and position, it's a sacrifice.
Rivals.
The two Mafia Families were never meant to work so closely together, but in order to survive, the Martellis and Amatos need to go against everything they’ve ever been taught.
Without knowing who to trust, both the Bosses and the Families must rely on cooperation to make it through to the end… If they don’t become their own worst enemies first.
Excerpt:
“If
you’re planning on boring us to death,” I say conversationally, looking right
up at the camera, “this is a good start.”
Allesandro
snorts, but doesn’t say anything. After all, it’s not like he can disagree with
me. Being left chained in a soulless concrete room is so cliché. Granted, Tennant’s torture chambers have the same look, but
at least we give his experiments chairs, and something to look at—even if those
things are the instruments of their pain.
When
no response comes from our host, I consider thunking my head against the wall,
just for something to do. Instead, I begin humming one of the Taylor Swift
songs that Roman’s had on repeat the last few weeks.
“Really?”
Allesandro raises an eyebrow at my song choice.
I
shrug. “There’s a reason we always have music playing at the house. Silence is
maddening. And it hasn’t even been a day yet. I don’t really plan on dying by
boredom in here. Though, it might be worth it if I get to skip Ten’s lecture.”
“Save
us from hovering Seconds,” he mutters.
“Exactly.
I don’t know about you, but my Family will try to put me in a bubble after
this—as if I can’t take care of myself. I’ve been doing it a lot longer than
any of them.”
“I
can already feel my Boys’ worry and protectiveness. It’d be…sweet, if it wasn’t
so damn annoying. Who do they think made them and taught them how to live up to
their full potential?”
I
hum my agreement. “I’m surprised our host hasn’t snapped at us yet,” I say
lowly.
“Maybe
he perished from boredom himself,” Allesandro responds.
Laughing,
I lean my head against the concrete wall and sigh. As much as I’m enjoying
talking to Il Padrone—something we don’t get to do much because of our
respective job titles—I wish something interesting would happen. No, I don’t want to be tortured, but anything is
better than this. Not that I have high hopes the torture would be any good. I
grew up with Tennant, after all, so it takes a lot to impress me.
“We’ve
already bet on who’s Family will get here first,” I say casually. “Shall we
also wager against who is going to be the most…destructive in their search?”
“Easy,
my Emilio. He is the most…hostile one when it comes to me.”
“Yes,
I can see that. Though he’ll find a match in Tennant.” In truth, it worries me.
The longer I’m gone, the less control Tennant will have over himself.
Saving
him when we were teenagers was the right thing to do, but for the monster that
lives in Tennant, it meant something more. Loyalty isn’t what keeps Tennant by
my side. If it was, he never would have ended up hospitalized in the first
place.
No,
what keeps Ten with me is something far deeper than anyone else will ever
understand. And it scares me shitless to know I’m not there to rein him in. I
have to believe Hollis’s hold on him is enough…
“I’m
willing to take that wager,” Allesandro says, ignorant to the dark turn my
thoughts have taken.
“Name
your price, Padrone.”
Destruction is book 1 in the Crimson Bonds series and ends on a cliffhanger. All books in this series must be read in order. This is a dark MM and MMM+ story with various pairings and relationships. Please see inside for the full list of TWs.
This is an Amato Family (All's Fair Series by Abrianna Denae) and Martelli Family (Vendetta series by Leigh Kenzie) crossover. This is not a standalone story. At least one of the series, Vendetta or All’s Fair, needs to be read first to truly understand the dynamics of this story.
Can you read this without prereading one of those?
Yes, but you will not have a true understanding of their group dynamics
Because that is what is happening
Both families find their bosses have been kidnapped.
Having no choice but to step up as family heads both Lio and Roman find themselves treading water while their families and their business' are viciously attacked from the outside.
Relationships will be tested
The lines between friends and lovers are going to blur
It feels like things are falling apart while at the same time being rebuilt.
The authors are building anew if you will, and to do that they have to destroy the old.
Destruction is setting up the foundation for what is to come
The new dynamics
And am I so here for it
Please check your triggers as this is not for everyone
There are lots of electrical moments along with scenes splattered in crimson.
There are polyamory relationships.
"Kidnapping us is one thing, but maiming? Yeah... I wouldn't want to be any of those poor fuckers.
Two of my favorite characters!!
Ten and Lio are both forces to be reckoned with.
Trust their vengeance will leave a river of crimson behind
"How do I tell someone I've loved, who I know still loves me, that one chapter has ended,
This was such a heartbreak moment for me.
Author Interview:
Thank you for taking time to interview
us! We greatly appreciate the
opportunity.
1- What made you decide to cowrite and how did
this idea begin?
Leigh: I’m a huge fan of chaos and it was a
what-if question. I love Abrianna’s All’s Fair series and I was interested to
see what would happen if the Martelli Family and the Amato Family were forced
to join forces. We did a small Christmas crossover story in our groups and it
was well received. After that, I pretty much wore Abri down until they agreed
to try.
Abri: We’ve been friends for years, and love
each other’s work, so when the what-if became more “why don’t we”, there wasn’t
really a choice. It was Leigh’s idea to combine our worlds as we already had
readers for them, then again, her idea to test the waters with a Christmas
short that everyone absolutely loved. After that, I couldn’t really say no.
She’s lucky I love her.
Leigh: Extremely lucky!
2- What is your cowriting process?
Leigh: For the most part, since we write first
person POV, we’ll write whatever chapter is from our character’s POV. So if the
chapter is from a Martelli perspective, I would write it and if it’s an Amato
character, Abri writes it. Then the other person will go through the chapter
and make any tweaks necessary. It’s a learning experience so in the beginning,
there were more tweaks needed, but as the series itself has evolved we’ve
become extremely comfortable with each other’s characters. It helps that we’re
often talking in chat as our characters. We’re that immersed in the universe.
Abri: What Leigh said. I’ll add that our
characters are *very* noisy and will take over our conversations if they have
something to say, they’ve made their presence and thoughts very known to both
of us. So I’m not worried at all when Leigh puts my characters on page with her
own.
3- What is your overall experience like as
coauthors?
Leigh: It’s been amazing. Cowriting is hard
because you’re combining ideas and using existing characters can make it even
more difficult. However, both of us have the similar belief in letting the
characters lead. That can make for quite the twisted story, but it gives an
authenticity. While some things may be more controversial, we hope the readers
will trust us to tell the story as it needs to be told.
On a personal note, writing with Abri has been
such a pleasure. When we first started, I was struggling with writing. I was
burned out and somehow lost my way a bit. Writing this series has given me back
my joy of writing again. I don’t have enough words to fully explain how much
Abri has helped me. They’re one of my best friends and I absolutely adore them.
Abri: It’s been…the best experience of my
life, not going to lie. Leigh is…she is one of my best friends and the fact she
trusted me with her characters? Her stories? Mind-blown. I’ve loved writing
with her. She gets me and, more importantly, gets my characters. Sometimes, I
think they like her more than they like me.
I had a…not so good experience with co-writing
before, but with Leigh? Everything has been effortless, even in the beginning
when we were finding our feet. I’m so very thankful, and grateful, that she not
only wanted to work with me, but didn’t think I was too “broken”. Because for a
long time, I thought I was. Trust is hard, but I trust Leigh more than I do
myself some days, and I will never not be thankful for this amazing
opportunity.
4- What should readers expect from this
series?
Leigh: Chaos. Evilness. Twists. And some fun
cliffhangers.
Abri: Fuckery. Our characters are feral.
Expect the unexpected and brace yourself for those cliffs. Blame Leigh, she
introduced me to the *fun* of cliffhangers.
5- Are you plotters or pansters?
Leigh: I don’t know how to plot. I’ve tried.
It does not work. I’m a complete panster, which while it maximizes the chaos a
bit, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The characters know the story better
than I do.
Abri: Pansters. Any project I tackle, I go in
with a goal in mind. How the characters get from point A to end goal? That’s
the fun of writing a book for me. Leigh and I just write and when we get to a
certain point, usually about halfway or so, we start discussing what we have
left in order to reach our goal, but it’s not really a plot or an outline, just
more a sense of direction. We know xyz still needs to happen, how is the
mystery. The characters are very vocal, and feral, as I’ve mentioned before, so
we try not to think too hard, otherwise they’ll come for us, lol.
6- Who are some of your favorite authors?
Leigh: Aside from Abri? E.M. Denning is one of
my favorites. I love the worlds and characters she creates. So many of them
just heal my heart. I’m also a fan of Elouise East (and her taboo Elouise R.
East pen name) and D.G. Carothers. It’s probably no surprise that my favorite
authors all tend to write some level of kink.
Abri: Leigh, obvs. I am also a huge fan of
E.M. Denning, R. Phoenix, and Aurora Crane. They’re all so vastly different
authors, but they all effortlessly put their words on page in a way I devour
and admire.
7- What about favorite movie?
Leigh: I have two. Bad Company with Chris
Rock. That’s the one I put on when I need a laugh. My other is Red, White, and
Royal Blue. Abri knows how often I watch that!
Abri: I don’t watch movies often, the ADHD is
real. But I love Red, White, and Royal Blue (Leigh and I actually did a live
chat watch when it first dropped). I also LOVE Hamilton. One day I’ll see it
live, but for now, I will watch it whenever I need a pick-me-up.
8- Is there anything that has surprised you
with this cowrite?
Leigh: Pretty much everything. None of the
characters behaved and it exceeded all hopes I had for chaos. But it’s given
such incredible depth and I’m in love with what we created. I rarely have that
feeling about my own work, but writing with Abrianna has honestly elevated my
ability. They challenge me to be better and I feel it comes across in the
words.
Abri: Uhh everything. None of our characters
listen to us, and uhh all the chaos happened. ALL the chaos. I love it, it’s
amazing and I am so freaking proud of what we’ve accomplished but uhh I also
would like to have *some* control of my characters. No? *sigh*
9- What advice would you give aspiring
writers?
Leigh: This is always a hard question for me.
I never have felt like enough of a writer to be qualified for it. I guess the
only answer I can give is to be persistent and take chances. I’m not exactly
the most traditional storyteller and honestly when I first started writing, I
didn’t expect anything to happen with it. I had put “become a writer” on the
shelf of forgotten dreams and just having this experience is something I never
take for granted. If I ever feel like a real author, maybe my advice will change,
but for now it’s don’t give up and be true to yourself.
Abri: Write for yourself first. You’re your
first reader. Don’t get so hung up on being “perfect” because none of us are.
I’ve been doing this a LONG time, and yet I have more fears and insecurities
today than I did eight years ago. But at the end of the day, I write books I
believe in, and that’s what keeps me going more than anything. If you love it
and believe in it, then that’s what matters most.
10- Do you plan on cowriting more past this
series?
Leigh: We have all the plans! We can’t tell
you about them yet, but let’s just say I’ve claimed Abri and they can’t leave.
*evil cackling*
Abri: We have plans. So many plans. This is
definitely not the last you’ll see of us. *innocent grin*
