I am so torn with this review
I gave it four stars because it captivated me and Oakley stole my heart
I love a good emotional rollercoaster read that leaves those little trails of tears
And I adored both Sebastian and Oakley
I wanted to wrap Oakley in bubble wrap so he would never hurt again
"On instinct, my arms wrapped around my torso, trying to keep the parts that were falling apart inside."
Oakley was abused both physically and emotionally until he was sold or possibly kidnapped would be a better descriptor
Either way thanks to Sebastian he was now "free"
Now began Oakley's journey of recovery
Facing his fears of the monsters who came in the dark
Understanding that he was no longer a thing but now a person
I enjoyed this journey immensely but I was left wanting
Many of the events, and characters, IMO needed more background
Also, I felt things wrapped up a bit too quickly or did not occur at all
I think the author could have easily made this a duet
I could be a bit greedy but :
I wanted to be there when he met the parents
I wanted to be there when he saw the papers Seb had for him
Did he adventure into those areas he was so curious to read about?
I wanted to be a fly on the wall during his counseling
I wanted to understand more about Seb's background and family
I just wanted a bit more time with them
Seb's brother's wife was a bit of a hurricane (one of the areas I would have enjoyed more background on)
I recommend it if you are looking for a bit of angst and a heartwarming journey of recovery
