EXCERPT
“Elizabeth.” My heart leapt as I opened my eyes, and my
breathing stopped for a second. My eyes roamed over his handsome face. His jaw
was slightly swollen and bruised, but other than that, his face was untouched.
His grey eyes were unusually light from the angle where I sat, and his dark
hair was tousled in a way that made me ache to run my fingers through it.
“May I?” He motioned to the bench next to me.
I was still surprised to see him, so I just nodded.
Spencer sat and shifted his body so it was facing mine.
“I’ve been looking all over for you. Didn’t you get my calls?”
In my rush to see Aidan, I had left my cell phone at home,
so I shook my head no.
Spencer gave me a ghost of a smile and softly chuckled. “Are
you gonna talk to me or just nod your head?”
“I’m sorry. I’m just shocked to see you.” I shifted my body
so it was facing his.
“After last night, I wanted to make sure you were okay.” His
soft gaze traveled from my face to the length of my body. When he saw the
bruises, his jaw clenched before he frustratingly blew out a breath of air. He
gently lifted my arm to examine it further. I could sense he was trying to rein
in his anger. “Did he hurt you anywhere else?”
Spencer reached to place a stray lock of my hair behind my
ear.
My eyes didn’t leave his. I whispered, “No.”

INTERVIEW
How do you handle writers block?
When writer's block strikes, I've learned that taking a
break and stepping away from my work can be incredibly helpful. A change of
scenery, like going for a walk, often clears my mind and allows me to overcome
the block. Discussing my ideas with others can provide fresh perspectives and
help me break through mental barriers. I've found that combining these
strategies can effectively help me overcome writer's block and return to my
writing with renewed inspiration.
How do you stay motivated throughout the writing process?
To maintain motivation throughout my writing process, I
rely on several strategies. Firstly, I find it beneficial to establish clear,
attainable goals. Breaking down larger objectives into smaller, manageable
tasks helps me stay focused and on track. Secondly, I've found that
establishing a consistent routine is key to making writing a habit. By setting
aside dedicated time each day, for me, it’s the early morning.
Surrounding myself with sources of inspiration, such as
listening to music, helps keep my creative juices flowing. Sharing my writing
goals with others also plays a crucial role in keeping me accountable and
motivated.
Can you tell us about your writing process?
Sure! Once I have a draft, I move on to the revising
stage. Here, I refine my draft, focusing on improving clarity, coherence, and
structure. I may need to add, remove, or rearrange content to strengthen my
writing. After revising, I move on to editing, where I correct grammar,
punctuation, and spelling errors. I also ensure that my writing follows the
appropriate style guide and formatting requirements.
The final stages of my writing process include
proofreading, where I carefully read through my work to catch any remaining
errors, and seek feedback from others, such as my writing group. Their input
provides valuable insights and helps me improve my writing.
Based on the feedback I receive, I revise my work
accordingly, making changes to address any issues or suggestions raised by
others. Finally, once I'm satisfied with my revisions, I finalize my work for
submission.
What's your favorite thing about being a writer?
One of my favorite things about being a writer is the
opportunity for creative expression. Writing allows me to express my thoughts,
feelings, and ideas in a unique and creative way, which is incredibly
fulfilling. I also love the storytelling aspect of writing. It gives me the
chance to create characters, and stories from my imagination, bringing my ideas
to life.
Completing a writing project, whether it's a novel, or
article, gives me a great sense of accomplishment. It's a tangible reminder of
my hard work and dedication as a writer. Additionally, writing has brought me
into a community of like-minded individuals who share my passion. Connecting
with other writers provides me with support, encouragement, and inspiration.
Being a writer is a rewarding and fulfilling experience
that allows me to learn, grow, and make a positive impact through my words.
How do you handle writers burn out? Not writers block.
More so, you just have no desire to write.
When experiencing writer's burnout, I find it helpful to
take a break from writing and focus on other activities that recharge me.
Stepping away from my work for a day, a week, or even longer can help me regain
perspective and come back to my writing with a fresh mind.
Reconnecting with my passion for writing is important. I
take some time to remember why I started writing in the first place and focus
on the aspects of writing that I love.
Setting realistic goals is key to overcoming burnout. I
make sure to set goals that are achievable and manageable, and I don't put too
much pressure on myself if I don't meet them. Seeking support from other
writers or friends is important. Talking about what I'm going through and
knowing that others are going through similar struggles can be comforting.
Practicing self-care is also crucial. I make sure to take
care of myself physically, mentally, and emotionally, by getting enough rest,
eating well, and engaging in activities that relax and rejuvenate me.
