My Pre-Author Life

Prior to my author life, I’ve been through hell. I survived the continuous retaliation from two former employers who collaborated with each other to try and drive me crazy. After years of writing to my United States senators and prodding the EEOC to take me seriously even though I had not worked for one of my employers since 1997 and the other since 2009, the EEOC finally heard me. They issued me a Right To Sue Letter even though I hadn’t worked for either employer in years.

I spent those years raising my daughter, Asia Lavay Lampley, a graduate of Wharton. She became a casualty in my fight against my employers for their retaliation against me affected her directly. Now I’m back on my feet after nearly completing my MA in English and Creative Writing with a concentration in Fiction. I knew, and they figured that I would someday write a book about what my employers did to me. How I suffered sexual harassment, hostile work environments and continuous retaliation even outside my home. Imagine being under 24/7 surveillance and trying to get someone to believe you. Imagine having your phone calls, emails and text messages eavesdropped on or intercepted. That’s been my life prior to my life as an author.

Gaining credibility as an author of fiction became my single focus. Once I secured that, writing a memoir about my ordeal and promoting it would be easier than promoting it as an unknown author without a platform. I must defeat my employers with the written word and make it easier for women like me to defeat these large employers. Who are they? The state of Ohio and Mercy Hospital Partners. What I’d like for them to know? They did not break me. I have my dignity back. And I have my name. I intend to become a bestselling author and a champion for women being marginalized in the workplace.
