He has far too much nerve. He can blow things up with his mind. He’s got anxiety. Yeah. The world should probably brace itself for this one.

Blurb

British superheroes, melodramatic Mages, snarky secret agents, one hell of a found family, and a whole load of weird people.

Also, there's a duck.

This is the painfully bizarre origin story of Rexley Nova.

When Rex was four years old, he became one of the world’s first superhumans.

When Rex turns twenty, he feels the drive to use his scientifically given abilities to protect the world. He leaves home to become a member of the Secret Superhero Security unit, alongside three of his friends and Danger City’s own superhero, Polaris.

Rex fights murderous Mages, evil organisations, criminal mafias, his agency appointed psychiatrist, his own anxious brain, and the most frightening of all, his attraction to a certain blue-eyed superhero.

Excerpt

“Come on, North,” I say, coaxing, spitting blood out of my mouth. “Don’t be nice.” I get as close as he’ll let me. “Treat me like you’re paying for it.”

Damon’s nose flares, and his lips curl to form a jagged snarl. His expression changing from robot to human in zero point five seconds flat. He makes a low sound that’s just the right side of threatening to be a problem for me. And not in the way it should be a problem for me.

Damon catches my arm at the right angle and twists me around so my back is pressed against his front. He wraps an arm securely around my waist, hauling me in even closer. A blaze of heat singes along my nerves when Damon runs his hand under my T-shirt, his fingers dragging over the hot skin of my belly. I try to kill it dead, the vulnerable quiver his intimate touch invokes, but that just makes it worse.

A full-on no-shit bonfire lights up inside my stomach. It sends a fucked-up message to my head, which in turn sends an even more fucked-up message to my cock. It’s like my body is playing telephone with itself.

You’re not supposed to want to get off with the bloke who’s making you bruise and bleed. Not without a serious discussion about it beforehand, anyway.

Pretty sure Damon and I aren’t going to be doing anything that sensible. Especially since the most sensible thing would be letting go and walking away before we can make this situation any worse.

Damon wraps his other hand around my throat, fingers digging in lightly, his thumb pressing against the edge of my jaw. He tilts my head to the side, exposing more of my throat to him. I resist the urge to lean my head back on his shoulder. Because I’m not mad.

My chest rapidly rises and falls as I struggle to breathe. It’s not really because of all the hits I’ve taken. I’m having more trouble dealing with Damon’s proximity than I am to what he’s done to me with his hands. A sign that maybe he was pulling some of his punches.

“You,” I say, barely getting the words out through all the tightness and the pain and the blood, “have got some serious control issues, North.” I shift against him, and he tightens his hold in response. I smile, oddly charmed by it.

“Might want—” Another few unsteady breaths. “—to see somebody about that.”

Damon feels like solid stone against my back, his body so tense I’m worried he might shatter if I tap the wrong spot too hard. As if in response to my thoughts, Damon’s arm around my waist changes from tight to crushing. His fingers press into my neck with clear intention. Not enough to choke. Just a reminder. Or a warning. A warning to be careful where I’m going with all of this.

My pale skin bruises easily. I can tell I’m going to have some on my throat. I don’t hate that idea like I should. And something about it being Damon who made them, whose fingers dug into my skin and left behind a mark, speaks to a primal part of my brain.

Damon’s mouth skates along my jaw, either by accident or on purpose, I’m not sure which. It doesn’t really matter. A short, bitten-off moan leaves my throat in a rush. I clamp my lips together to try to contain the rest of it. But it’s too late. Damon heard it. A shudder runs through him, a ripple of feeling and skin and warmth. An answering wave rolls through me, my body set to quaking.

I need to stop.

Damon bends his neck to speak directly into my ear. Our height and size difference aids him in making me feel completely taken over, enveloped, held in place, swallowed up and overwhelmed by my temporary loss of autonomy.

“Is this a game?” Damon asks, and he sounds, it beggars belief, genuinely upset by the idea.

Fantasy, Friendship, Just all kinds of Fun

This was the perfect way to end my days
I honestly looked forward to reading this in the evenings to unwind
From Rex's beginning rambles to the closing, not really a cliffhanger - I want more - #teamIDKyet
I was transported
I laughed so hard at this motley group of superheroes
I loved how they formed their own family, how they had each other's backs
The way we as readers saw the events through Rex - the kid is so sweet, loveable, and at times slightly out there
This is a full-length novel that sets the foundation for the series which
I highly recommend
For those who enjoy the lighter side
Plenty of humor
Emotional upheavals  - not really angsty
A diverse cast of characters - we get to meet them and learn who they are or were  through Rex's perspective - which at times can be pretty amusing
Plenty of action
All wrapped up in a new and fresh storyline
I look forward to spending more evenings with them

Author Interview
What would people be most surprised to know about you?
Answer: I’m secretly Santa Clause. This whole author thing is my new sideline. Any presents you got as a child? All me. Anyone who said otherwise is a liar and guilty of fraud and should not be trusted.
Do you have a favorite quote (either from your own books or one’s you’ve read)?
“Then I heard a lot of banging and crashing around, some loud swearing, and the familiar chuckles of doom. I decided not to ask any further questions.
I should have asked questions.
To this day, I have no idea where he got that rocket launcher from.”
And.
“I turn to go, leaving him cuffed to the toilet.
‘Watch him, King.’ I say to the panting corgi at my feet. ‘Make sure he doesn’t break his hand and slip out of the cuffs like a person truly committed to regaining their freedom would.’”
-The WIP currently challenging me to a mental dual.
How long have you been writing and what made you fall in love with writing?
Answer: I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. There are probably notebooks somewhere full of my sparkly gel pen scrawl from when I was seven years old. I’ve always loved stories, both reading them and creating my own.
I fell in love with the freedom of writing fiction. I can create entire new worlds, full of characters who can be whoever I want them to be. In writing, the potential for surviving adversity and heartbreak and pain, for experiencing adventure and victory and hope, is truly without limit. That feels like a gift to me.
What are your ambitions for your writing career?
Answer: For people to read my books. That’s pretty much all I can ask for. It’s a genuine privilege for me to be able to share my stories with other people, and maybe gush about my characters if asked. It blows my mind that there are actual humans reading my books. Absolutely a dream come true.
What’s your favorite part of writing?
Answers: Having the ability to create characters who I can give life to.
Tell us about your writing style.
Answer: I have a preference for both writing in first person, and dry/quirky humour. My writing style has been described by others as ‘unique’. I think it might be quite divisive, maybe? As in, you’ll either enjoy the difference or you’ll struggle with it. For my current series, I really wanted it to feel like you’re inhabiting my characters’ heads and living their experiences alongside them. I’m hoping it will allow people to feel very connected to the MC.
What does your writing process look like?
Answer: It looks like me squinting at the laptop screen for an hour willing myself to write, then tapping out three sentences, then deleting them, then staring for another half an hour and contemplating whether I should give up being an author because it’s too hard and my head hurts, then rewriting the same three sentences again and going on to bang out a whole chapter for no discernible reason.
When/where is your favorite time/place to write?
Answer: Two o’clock in the morning, when I’m too tired to think about how rubbish what I’m writing actually is and therefore over-analyse everything.
Why did you choose to write LGBT romance/fiction?
Answer: I honestly feel more comfortable writing in this space. Not just because I am a queer person, but also because it was coming out and finding my community which allowed me to be happier and freer within myself. Queer books represent mostly good things for me in general, and I’m so happy to be able to offer up my own contributions.
Describe a scene in your writing that has made you laugh or cry?
Answer: I don’t want to spoil anything, but there is a chapter in the most recent book I finished writing which has the first scene I ever conceptualised for my current series. It’s a very emotional scene and I’m so looking forward to what people will think.
Give the readers a brief summary of your latest book or WIP. What genre does it fall in?
Answer: Novas Got Nerve is my debut book, and it’s about a group of queer superheroes and secret agents.
The first book of my Liquid Onyx series is basically Rex’s very bizarre origin story, where he becomes Wrath, a superhero of Danger City.
He faces a lot of opposite forces, such as violent Mages, criminal mafias, supervillain organisations and one of his love interests, a man named Damon who is the world’s first superhero. They have a troubled past because it was Rex’s dad who created Liquid Onyx, a chemical which gave children superpowers, including Damon.
Give us a little insight into your main characters. Who are they?
Answer: Rex, my MC, is the son of the world’s first supervillain and a superhuman with the power to blow things up using his mind. He was raised by his uncle and grew up with a found family including other superhuman children; Caleb, Mei and Tate.
Rex has a very dry sense of humour, and he shares a somewhat fondly antagonistic relationship with his family, who all have similarly quirky/eclectic personalities.
One of Rex’s primary love interests is Caleb’s older brother, Jamie. They are incredibly close and have a bond which stretches beyond any romantic feelings they might have for each other.
Will we be seeing these characters again? Is this book part of a series?
Answer: Yes, Novas Got Nerve is part of the Liquid Onyx series. I have quite a lot planned out and written already. Fingers crossed I will be able to expand this series to include multiple arcs and give my other characters a chance in the driver’s seat.
Which actor would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?
Answer: I have a pretty vivid picture of Rex in my head, and there’s no one who I can think of who fits exactly. But I like the idea of either a young(er) Charlie Hunnam or George Mackay (but with Rex’s platinum blond hair). Dealer’s choice on who you think works best.
What genre/s do you enjoy reading in your free time?
Answer: I’m willing to give anything a try, honestly. I do have special love for an epic in any genre, though. Something that makes you feel like you’ve been on a journey with the characters.
What was the last book you read? What did you like about it?
Answer: I’ve always got so many books on the go at the same time, it can be hard to keep track, but I think the last one I finished was Unbroken by C.L Clark. I enjoyed the world building, and just the story in general, really. It grabbed me and held on tight.
How do you relax?
Answer: Crime.
What hobbies do you have outside of writing?
Answer: My friends and I do this thing where we go to charity book shops, buy the most random books we can find (most recent examples: ‘Salt: A World History’ about the very exciting origin and usage of salt throughout history, and ‘This is Not My Hat’ by Jon Klassen about a fish who steals a bigger fish’s hat and the events which unfold thereafter), then we post them to equally random addresses. We like to imagine the people receiving those books, and just being very confused.
