Excerpts Book 1 – Someone Exactly Like Me

Excerpt 1:

Inching in still closer, he lingers above me. “Destiny, I…” His gaze sweeps across my face. “I care for you. I don’t know this feeling well.” He softly chuckles. “I…” He pauses, then releases a low growl, hesitating. “Last night at dinner, when we toasted and you didn’t know what I said, I said, you will always be in my heart, my sweet girl.” Curling his hand under my jaw, he runs his thumb across my lips. As his eyes watch the motion of his thumb, he skims his own lips with his tongue.⠀

My breathing is audible. I can’t douse the desire winding its way through my veins.⠀

⠀

He lowers his head, his voice just above a whisper. “If I don’t kiss you before I get on that plane, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life.”⠀

⠀

My chest rises and falls with each breath I take. “But you don’t kiss women on the lips.” His face inches from mine, my heart hammers in my ears. We breathe each other’s breaths.⠀

“I know,” he says, lowering his head farther, lacing his fingers through my hair. Taking my face in his hands, he tilts it up, then touches his warm lips to mine. A faint groan churns in his throat and thunders through my body.

 

Excerpt 2:

There’s much more to this man than meets the eye. He’s insightful, pensive, sincere. This is unexpected. I do hope he puts his T-shirt back on when he comes back. His bare chest is distracting. Even though I’ve already had the pleasure of stroking his chest and abs with oily hands, just the sight of him makes my body tingle. Sure, I’ve seen plenty of shirtless men before, but no one like him. His broad chest expands out to his toned shoulders and narrows toward his waist and that sexy V-line. Mediterranean skin covered with the perfect amount of hair, and hard nipples, always. Beautifully outlined six-pack without being overly rippled. He’s the kind of unrealistic fantasy-man I write about, and he’s so very real. Thank goodness for my sunglasses, at least he can’t see me ogling him like a teenager.

 

Excerpt 3:

Her exhale is audible. I move my gaze from her lips to her eyes, they’re flicking back and forth. The urge to kiss her is growing stronger. Her breathing is shorter and quicker. I stare into her eyes, taking a deep breath. “Don’t worry, I won’t kiss you."⠀

 

Excerpt 4:

“And do I need to ask for details or are you going to tell me so I don’t have to pull them out of you?”⠀

Laying down, I put the heel of my hand on my forehead. “Can, this man. This man.”⠀

⠀

“What? Tell me.” Her eagerness to know what’s going on in my love life, even when it’s not really what I’d call a love life, has always made me laugh.⠀

⠀

I chuckle, pause, then sigh. “Okay, so we know I’ve never been on a romantic getaway for two, even when I was dating someone. For not dating Nicco, it was the most romantic two days I’ve ever spent with a man.”⠀

“Details, please.” I can picture her crossing her legs then crossing her hands over her knees, tapping her foot.⠀

⠀

“I don’t know any details, but what I do know is that someone broke his heart, enough so that he thinks his heart is empty.”⠀

⠀

“I wonder what happened to him.”⠀

⠀

“So do I. He’s a closed book. He’s been really open with me about some things, but this, nothing. Whatever happened hit him deep.” I pause. “Then there was a hot tub moment.”⠀

“I’m listening.”⠀

⠀

“I kind of, accidentally grazed his p*nis and it was very hard.”⠀

⠀

“You touched his d!ck?” she shouts.⠀

⠀

“No,” I insist. “I didn’t touch his d!ck. I just, grazed it as I was adjusting my position.”⠀

“Well, what happened?”⠀

⠀

“It was kind of odd, but he said he had an idea of how we could help each other. When I asked how, he said he wanted me to teach him how to be tender during s*x and he’d teach me about passion.”⠀

“I’m sorry, he offered you s*x? Is that what you’re saying?”

 

Excerpts Book 2 – Kiss Away Your Pain

Excerpt 1:

“I’m not wearing a br@,” she says. I’d already noticed that and I’ve been focusing all night on not letting my d!ck get hard.

“Okay, you put on my shirt,” I say, taking off my shirt and handing it to her. “I’ll go in the water and turn around, then you can take off your pretty top and put on my shirt.”

She takes the shirt from me and I strip off my jeans then walk into the cool water, gentle waves splash against my skin. When I turn to look at her, she’s standing there, watching me.

“Ready? I’m going to turn around and you let me know when I can look again.” I turn and wait, watching the moon as it hangs suspended against the darkening sky.

After a few minutes, I hear her steps into the water. She’s by my side.

“Can I look now?”

“Yes.” Her voice is quiet. “The water’s colder than I thought.”

“Do you want to get out?”

“No, not yet.”

“Come here. I’ve got you.” I hold my arms out, not sure she’ll come.

 

Excerpt 2:

I make my way to the restroom, slightly lightheaded from what just happened. Tucked into a stall, I overhear some women talking.

“Did you see the way he looked at her? It was like no one else was even in the room,” says one voice.

“I know. I wish I could find a man who looked at me the way he looked at her,” says another voice.

“With his looks that intense, I can’t even imagine how mind-blowing he is in b3d. Holy sh!t,” says the first voice. They both laugh.

“That man is off the market. Hook, line, and sinker.”

Still in my stall, I can’t help but smile. It was kind of intense the way he looked at me as he sang. I’m not even going to think about what he’s like in b3d. I can’t go there. I heave a sigh, trying to slow my pulse.

 

Excerpt 3:

“Is your mom a photographer too then?”⠀

⠀

“No. She was a housewife. Given the chance though, she might’ve been. I think she would’ve been amazing at it.” A bright smile lifts her cheeks then fades. “My dad’s a little old fashioned and didn’t want her to work. I think part of why she encouraged me so much is because she wanted me to be able to have the dreams she couldn’t.”⠀

“Jeez, that’s too bad. I’m sure they’re both proud of you and what you’ve achieved.”⠀

⠀

“Left here.” She nods with a broad smile. “My mom was. She was so happy for me. She was my biggest fan and I tried to make sure I told her, often, how grateful I was for her constant support and love. She made me feel like I could conquer the world.” Her cheeks lower. “My dad, not so much.”⠀

⠀

“Really?” Given what I’ve learned about her, I can’t image a parent not being proud. She talks about her mom in past tense. Could she be the person behind the ring around her neck?⠀

⠀

“Right up here. That’s my building.” She points. “That’s a story for another day.” Her gentle smile holds a sadness.⠀

 

Excerpt 4:

“Candi.” He chuckles. “She’s a firecracker.” A broad smile spreads across his face.⠀

“She sure is. Tough and beautiful too.”⠀

⠀

“Was she giving you a hard time during the shoot?” A small crease forms between his eyebrows.⠀

⠀

“No. It’s just, I’ve asked her out twice and she turned me down both times.”⠀

⠀

He laughs. “I’ve seen her turn down lots of guys. Don’t take it personally. She dresses se&y as h3ll and has a wild, sassy personality. I think men mistake that she’s easy. But she’s a one-man kind of woman. She’s deeply intellectual and smart-as-sh!t. One of the most dedicated, committed, and fiercely loyal people I’ve ever met. She’s very selective when it comes to men.”⠀

⠀

“Here you go, gentlemen.” The waiter places cocktail napkins in front of each of us and sets our drinks on them.⠀

⠀

“Hmh. So, I have no chance in h3ll then.”⠀

⠀

He laughs again and picks up his drink, holding it out toward me. “You’ll have to prove you’re worthy of her.”⠀

⠀

I tap my glass to his and twist my lips to the side. “I’m not sure I’ll ever get the chance.”⠀

⠀

“Prove it to me and I’ll make sure you do.” He sips his drink and leans back, crossing his ankle over his opposite knee.⠀

⠀

Ruminating on his words, I take a sip of my drink, letting the smooth liquid slide down my throat as soothing jazz music trickles into my ears. First, Candi’s assistant spoke about her with a lot of respect. And now Nicco. I have to get to know this woman.⠀

“Done.” I hold out my glass toward him and he taps it with his.
